Congress: 4th International Congress on Education and Accessibility in Museums and Heritage. Lisbon and Batalha - Portugal. 2-4 October 2017

The International Congress on Education and Accessibility in Museums and Heritage, held every two years to date, had its third edition in 2016. After Murcia (2012) and Huesca (2014), it was the turn of Alicante and Villa Joyosa.

This event has been consolidating a growing international importance in the discussion of Education and Accessibility in museums and heritage, unfolding in transversal and integrative approaches that intend to provide a multi and interdisciplinary field of reflection, as well as to identify good practices within this problem.

The last two editions were attended by around three hundred speakers, from various countries around the world, such as Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain, France, Italy, Mexico, Portugal and Russia, representing various areas of work such as museums, Art galleries, natural parks, central, regional and local government agencies, schools and universities, cultural equipment, tourism, industry, architecture and design, among others.

During the 2016 edition, Portuguese participants were challenged by some members of the Scientific Committee to inaugurate a cycle of international dissemination of the event. This was how the IV edition in Portugal, during the fourth quarter of 2017, started to take form.

In this way, the theme proposed for the IV International Congress on Education and Accessibility in Museums and Heritage, to be held on 2, 3 and 4 October, in Lisbon, Cascais and Batalha, will be «Training for Inclusion: Is Universal Accessibility feasible?»

This congress is being supported by ICOM - Portuguese Com.; Turismo de Portugal (Portuguese Tourism Board); and Institute of Contemporary History, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, NOVA University of Lisbon.
