The ICRPC, a CERCA centre
The Catalan Institute for Cultural Heritage Research is a CERCA centre. The CERCA Institution is the Government of Catalonia’s agency and technical service for monitoring, supporting and facilitating the activity of research centres in the CERCA system. It was created as a foundation in 2010 to respond to commitments made in the National Agreement on Research and Innovation:
“The Government of Catalonia will create an Agency of Research Centres of Catalonia using existing resources, to meet the specific, distinctive needs of the development, monitoring and structural funding of Catalan research centres”.
The CERCA model of Catalan research centres has devolved quantitatively and qualitatively in the last ten years, and has reached levels of scientific excellence in many areas. The model has flexible, independent management structures, attracts research talent, and is effective at attracting competitive funds, on the basis of a high level of scientific activity. The challenge is now to continue to grow in a rapidly changing context that presentsnumerous opportunities.
