XI Jornadas de la Asociación para la Interpretación del Patrimonio
During 8th-11th March 11, 2012 have been carried out the XI Jornadas de la Asociación para la Interpretación del Patrimonio, held in the Aula de Medi Ambient Caixa Burgos-Palència
Antonio Rojas (Studies and Analysis Unite ICRPC) presented a poster on the potential of cultural events to take action disclosure of cultural heritage. Rojas provided data based on a research from ICRPC.
Re-enactment events have become usual in the weekend activities. The demand for these activities is based on a virtual journey to the past and dissemination of cultural heritage. They seem to be ideal locations to conduct outreach activities and heritage interpretation. However, in practice only a small percentage of them contain in their programs activities of heritage interpretation and dissemination of the past. The most popular and abundant are the medieval events.
A palpable and growing phenomenon is the excessive repetition and copying existing models. This reduces the variety of cases and comes to the trivialization of some historical re-enactments as well as the realization of these fairs in inappropriate places and poor quality proposals. Currently there is a clone of the same models, the same activities, especially cloning of events less original. It’s detected a lack of originality and diversification of existing supply. In general, the perception of visitors attending several of these events is that many of them are all the same. In the repetition of patterns influenced by a lack of strategy and actions coordinated and joint planning between the different existing events. Visitors attending events is different with the same representations, the same craftsmen and the same activities.
The high numbers of visitors they receive these events seem to be used to disseminate the fact that local heritage deserves a reflection on how to take advantage of this power of attraction for the dissemination of local cultural heritage.
