Description
The artistic production of the modern period that we currently preserve (16th-18th centuries) is mostly religious in theme. That is why a good part of this production was concentrated inside the country's churches, as well as in spaces linked to devotion, although we know, and some examples have been preserved, that there were also civil artistic manifestations, such as inside town halls or universities, farmhouses, etc. One of the key drivers for the impetus of religious art was the Council of Trent, held between 1545 and 1563, and in this context, the altarpiece became the artistic genre par excellence. Through them, society reflected its spiritual convictions, its relationship with the supernatural, or its attitudes in very volatile moments in terms of security, subsistence, health, and the values ??of society at the time.
