Description
Writing of the technical report for the proposal to declare the Hermitage of Santa Caterina in Torroella de Montgrí as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest (BCIL), at the request of the Museu de Suport Territorial – Baix Ter of the Museu de la Mediterrània of Torroella de Montgrí.
The fundamental objective of writing this report is to enhance the value of the Hermitage of Santa Caterina in Montgrí by highlighting its exceptional historical-artistic richness, as well as its spiritual and symbolic relevance. Over the centuries, the hermitage has accumulated layers of significance that encompass both its liturgical and devotional function, as well as its role as a space for refuge, reception and community celebration.
Despite the damage suffered by the hermitage's artistic heritage during the Spanish Civil War, elements of great value are still preserved. Among these, it is worth highlighting the pieces of an artistic nature, such as the main altarpiece and the mural paintings, but also those elements of high symbolic and spiritual content, such as the votive offerings that still remain in the chapel, as well as the architectural value of the complex, visible in the different rooms of the building.
This report is based on the analysis of the relevant documentary, regulatory, urban planning, historical and conservation elements. The scope of the work will be defined by the sections that make up the declaration report, in accordance with the requirements of the heritage processing.
