The Catalan Institute for Cultural Heritage Research just published the book Museums of Today. The New Museum of society. It’s edited by Gabriel Alcalde, Xavier Boya Jusèp Roigé.
This book is the edition of the presentations given at the conference Museums of society held in Barcelona, Faculty of Geography and History at the University of Barcelona, in February 2010. The sessions allowed seeing the realities of some prestigious museums of the world while they serve as a framework to present and reflect on the proposal and the project of a future museum of archaeology, ethnology and history of Catalonia that would be placed in this area museums society.
The book, which contains different articles written by the directors or managers of each museum, exposes and analyzes the cases of the Museum of Scotland, the Museum of the Confluences in Lyon, the National Museum of Australia, the History Museum of Germany, the Canadian Museum Civilization da, the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam, the Museum of San Telmo in Donostia and the proposed Museum of Catalan society. The texts present an excellent view about the evolution and challenges of all these museums and offer clues that may be taken into account in the case of Catalonia. The same edition was published in Catalan by the Catalan Institute of Research in 2010. Due to the international subject and the numerous requests received from outside Catalonia the ICRPC decided to publish the English edition on paper and in ebook format.
