Roman Fernández Baca-Casares

Member of the Scientific Council

Doctor in Architecture. He is currently warden of the Alcázar of Seville. He has been Director General of Fine Arts in the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Spain, as responsible for the management, protection, conservation, dissemination and strengthening of the Cultural Heritage and its institutions (archives and museums) within the scope of the State's competences.

He is a member of the National Council of Docomomo Ibérico (Documentation and Conservation of the Modern Movement), the patronages of the Alhambra and Alcázar of Seville, of the Academia del Partal, the Free Association of Restoration Professionals of Spain. He is the Architect of the Faculty Superior Body of the Junta de Andalucía.

Specializing in urbanism, he has been director of the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage of the Department of Culture of the Andalusian Government. Under his direction, the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage has obtained numerous awards such as the National Award for Restoration and Conservation of Cultural Assets (2006) or the Gold Medal of the Spanish Association of Friends of the Castles (2007).

He has been sub-inspector of the services of architecture, urbanism and planning of the territory (1983-1985), head of the Service of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Assets (1985-1990) and professor of History of Contemporary Architecture (1998-2008). Since 2008 he has been a member of the scientific council and advisor of the ICRPC.
