At the end of the Civil War, museums and public institutions were nourished, or even, in some cases, created, by the art concentrations carried out by the Republican government beginning in July 1936. Some of the works detailed in the inventories of Republican deposits are now on display in the galleries of the main museums. Many others remain in storage. To date, it has not been possible to accurately trace the process of their entry. Although the affiliation of these works is mostly known, there is a still-unquantified number of works deposited by the heritage services established by the dictatorship government, lacking documentation that would allow us to determine their origin and, therefore, the legality of their entry, while also enabling their correct cataloging. This volume compiles the research carried out within the framework of the IGUEMUS project: The Impact of the Civil War on the Configuration of Museums in Catalonia. Traceability, location and destination of saved cultural assets (2022-2026, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. PID 2021-124518NB-I00) and proposes a reflection on the impact that the policies carried out by the first Franco regime around the Republican deposits created during the Civil War have on the current configuration of museums.
