Ferroviaris en guerra. Revolució, guerra civil i repressió franquista als ferrocarrils catalans de via estreta

This book is a further step and a new horizon in the knowledge of the effects of the civil war on the railway and on the Catalan railway workers. With the occupation of Catalonia, the railway faced a double challenge to the new rulers: that of reinstating the railway workers to work and that of recovering the exploitation. The victors assimilated the railway collective to that of public officials, in terms of the application of the repressive apparatus. The documentary funds available for the study of the facts, which are kept by FGC, give us back the image of the intensity of the repression on the two large Catalan narrow-gauge railway companies —CGFC and FSB-FFC—, in a way that makes quantitative interpretation possible. This book therefore presents the conditions under which the return to railway exploitation took place, from February 1939, and the coercive measures that the new authorities undertook to make it possible.

This book represents a significant milestone in the study of Catalan railway heritage, as well as in the understanding of the serious social and political consequences derived from the Civil War and the subsequent Francoist repression.

The starting point of this book is the desire to document, for the first time in an exhaustive manner, the systematic and relentless purge that was carried out on the Catalan railway community once the Civil War ended.

invisible facts available to the general public , while preventing the history of more than 2,000 railway workers from falling into oblivion. The book offers a graphic device with photographs of high documentary value.
