Description
Affected by territorial, social, and economic imbalances, rural areas in the SUDOE Area (Southwestern Europe) face the problems of depopulation, an aging population, and a lack of dynamism in the local economy.
In this context, the RESPIRA project addresses the enhancement of a territory through its identifying heritage, as a means of territorial revitalization that generates sustainable and lasting benefits for the territories (territorial attractiveness, local economic development, population retention, social cohesion/inclusion, etc.).
Its main objective is to promote and facilitate the valorization of the territorial capital of territories that contribute to their uniqueness and identity (e.g., centuries-old olive trees, artisanal trades, historical routes, local products and associated culinary practices,
specific natural resources, etc.) by applying and exploiting a transdisciplinary analysis of their heritage specificities and providing support.
Therefore, the project will develop a 1) Strategy for Valorizing the Heritage Identity of the territories; a 2) Transnational Action Plan for deployment at the local or territorial level; 3) Heritage Schemes for enhancing the value of the territories; 4) Training and Awareness-Raising Actions on Heritage Identity; and a 5) Pilot Action to test the tools in the territories.
The project will approach territorial heritage from a triple perspective: Natural, Cultural, and Memorial. This holistic approach will then be used in heritage transmission systems developed by public authorities, allowing for decompartmentalization, diversification, and increased valorization and transmission potential, reaching a broader audience.
